Jan Müller appointed chief executive of National Film and Sound Archive of Australia

This follows former CEO Michael Loebenstein’s appointment last year to the role of director of the Austrian Film Museum. Jan Müller (1967), CEO of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, will begin his new job October 1. Since April 2009, during his time at Sound and Vision, Müller managed e.g. the completion of the large-scale digitisation of the media collection and the merger with the Dutch Museum of the Press.

The Supervisory Board regrets Müller's departure, but is grateful for his contribution to the development of Sound and Vision. Guusje ter Horst, chairman: "Jan Müller has played a crucial role in making Sound and Vision into what it is today: a world-class institute in the center of media culture. We greatly appreciate and are thankful for all the work he has done."

It is now up to the Supervisory Board to provide for a successor.

Under Müller's leadership, Sound and Vision made the transition from analogue to digital archives. The institute manages one of the largest digital audiovisual collections in the world. He also recently launched the complete refurbishment of the institute’s Museum, one of the top cultural attractions in the Netherlands. Müller was president of the International Federation of Television Archives from 2012-2016 and is the chairman of the Dutch Media Literacy program, the Dutch National Coalition for Digital Preservation and Sustainability, and Europeana —  an online collection of digitised items from European museums, libraries, archives and collections.

Jan Müller: "Sound and Vision is a wonderful organisation with great societal relevance. In a time when media is so omnipresent, the demand for curation and interpretation is greater than ever and the requirements of our visitors and users are constantly changing. This places new responsibilities on organisations like ours, and it has been a privilege to guide this process over the past few years."
